Why Are People Becoming So Obese?

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

Obesity is a world-wide problem. Even the nations that never before had to worry about obesity, such as China, Japan and even Korea, are now seeing an epidemic. An increasing waistline is a problem virtually everyone shares. So what is making us so obese as a species? There answer is really just inadequate nutrition. We need to place a higher emphasis on nutrition when it comes to what and how much we are eating. There are many reasons why weight is becoming a major problem including the increase in fast food restaurants, the increase in portion sizes and the increase in processed, sugary foods. Nevertheless, there’s an answer and it lies in nutritional awareness.

Food Is Our Energy Source

Today we keep our focus on food and it’s taste, as well as the quantity of it we eat, and we often overlook the basic fact that food is just our fuel. Our body turns the food we eat into energy, in order to keep us moving each day. We develop fat when we give our body too much fuel. When taking fat into consideration, our body’s are merely acting as they were designed. It is not our body’s way of getting back at us or being spiteful. Fat has several important functions for our body. It is fat which provides us with heat when we are cold, also the insulation to our bones and internal organs and even to our muscles is provided by fat only. When we eat too much, and we don’t burn off those calories with exercise or everyday activities, the excess gets turned into fat. Because of our daily eating habits, the body fat increases very fast.

Sports Drink Commercial

By now, everyone is aware of the need to exercise regularly. It is also very important to be sure you keep your body well-hydrated during your workouts. Sport drinks are a unique type of beverage, designed to give your system the fluids it requires, plus other essential ingredients. In most instances, a sports beverage will also provide the body with a mild mix of electrolytes and carbohydrates.

These products, such as the Gatorade sports drink or the Accelerade sports drink are especially important for anyone who exercises for a period of 45 minutes or more. Not only do these beverages help you retain a good level of hydration, they also provide energy so that you can continue your workout and build your endurance levels.

Another major benefit that sport drinks provide to those who are engaged in athletic activities is that they help to keep the person from experiencing too great an increase in body temperature. This factor also keeps the level of stress on the cardiovascular system in check and is particularly important for people who are working out in hot environments.

The products on the sports drink market provide anywhere from 14 to 20 grams of carbohydrates for each 8 ounce serving. This level of carbohydrates in the endurance drink, which is about six to eight percent of the solution, delivers just the right balance of fluid and energy in order to best enhance a person’s performance during a workout.

good nutrition

A healthy lifestyle may seem out of reach for most people who are too busy with job and family commitments, who lack initiative or who have simply too little time on their hands. It doesn’t have to be. Eating a more healthful diet, adding a little more exercise to your daily routine, quitting smoking, maintaining a normal weight and limiting alcohol consumption each are small steps that add up to major benefits for your body.

Eating right does not have to be a chore. Simple changes you can make while on your next visit to the grocery store can get you on the right path to eating better. Small substitutions like eating more fruit and veggies and eating less refined and processed foods over time saves calories and adds nutrients to your diet. Don′t force yourself to shelve your entire diet and start with something restrictive. Feeling deprived leads to failure. Go slow and enjoy each new item you add to your diet.

Exercise does not have to be a dirty word. If you lead a sedentary lifestyle, start slow and increase your activity level as you reach small goals you set for yourself. It may be just using the stairs at work instead of using the elevator. Over time, you might decide to walk for part of your lunch break. Eventually you may want to join a fitness center to increase your progress. Go at a pace you are comfortable with and enjoy.

Benefits Of A Fitness Training Program

Fitness Traing Program Video

It is a well known fact that before any type of fitness training program it is necessary to carry out some simple warm up moves so there is less chance of injury. There are also a number of precautionary measures and tips to serve as guidelines when doing fitness exercises.

Many people consider it unnecessary but people who do not perform stretching movements before and after a workout are more likely to hurt themselves. Almost everyone knows that stretching before workout prevents injuries, but only a few people know that stretching after workout, when muscles are still warm, can increase flexibility.

For most warm-ups it is quite acceptable to hold a stretching position for twenty seconds but to really extend the muscles groups and joint flexibility, this should be lengthened to one minute. It is not advisable to stretch and then relax straight away but to return to the original position slowly.

At the point of greatest stretch, hold the position before you slowly release, this avoids any potential strain or the possibility of injury from jerking your joints. If you work the exercises in stages it will be easier and build up to the hardest stretches as you warm-up, this will also ensure all your muscles receive equal attention.

How You Can Lose Weight with Nutrition Supplements

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

Dietitians, nutritionists and most diet books will advise that you should divide your daily intake of food so that you are eating five or six small meals a day. If you go to see, it seems to be a lot of food that you are actually eating, even if you are eating smaller portions. Do you know that you can get the same results if you include nutrition supplements along with your actual meals? In any case you ought to be including vitamins and nutrition supplements whether you want to lose weight or just stay healthy. The best thing is that you don’t have to fork out a great deal of money on nutrition supplements. You can achieve your health and dietary goals with minimal expense with advice from your local nutrition center.

The Importance of Nutritional Balance

It is of utmost importance that your food intake is nutritionally balanced so that you get optimum value from the food you eat. This is regardless of whether you want to lose weight or maintain your current weight and stay healthy at the same time. You should know how many calories you are supposed to take in everyday. If you want to maintain your weight and have a more or less sedentary lifestyle, you should take your weight and multiply it by 13 to get your ideal calorie intake. If you are moderately active, you should multiply it by 14 and if you are extremely active multiply it by 15. This sum will give you the number of calories you can take in to stay the same weight you are now. If you want to lose weight, however, you should reduce your calorie intake by 500, so that on a reduced calorie diet you will be able to achieve weight loss. In case you want to gain weight, you can increase your calorie intake by 500. However, it is even more important that you eat the right foods whether you want to lose, gain or maintain weight, because all calories do not come from the same kind of foods.

Aiming for the Six Pack Abs

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

For people who don′t want just flat stomach but aim for six pack abs, the right program is needed to achieve it. And don’t expect to get to your goal in a few months, it takes more than that. More so you need determination, willpower, proper diet and pure dedication to maintain it. But the good part about it is this: it’s doable and the satisfactory results are well worth the effort. Come to think of it, you’re not only healthier but also in a very desirable shape.  You’ll get a lot more looks when you have a tight firm stomach than if you have a big beer belly with a few love handles.

To show off your six pack abs in no time, you need to eliminate body fat first. How do you that? Start by eating sensibly. Don’t skip breakfast, add up on fiber, opt for low calorie dinners, drink water throughout the day (the more, the better) and avoid sweets. Having small meals every three hours can also boost metabolism which is important in aiding your workout efforts as well. The best exercises to bust the fat are cardiovascular exercises such as running, walking, biking, swimming, volleyball, basketball, cross training and stair climbing. Then combine it with weight training.  A new trend is to use high intensity interval training which actually takes less time than regular weight training and gives you results in a much shorter time.

When the fat in your stomach starts to loosen, then it’s time build muscles to finally start your way to an enviable six pack abs. You need a consistent and well-planned program for this. Getting a trainer and enrolling in a gym may be better than doing it at home. But the choice is really yours. You must include crunches, sit-ups, V-ups, jackknife sit-ups, static hold and side static, training your oblique muscles and other ways to train your abs into your fitness program.

Cooking a meal at home for better health

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

Each day our lives get busier. We are always going from one place to the next for work or with our children. We have the temptation to stop at the closest fast food place rather than waiting to get home and make dinner. It is usually fast, cheap, there are many options to choose, and there can be found on virtually every street corner. Nevertheless, the next time you’re deciding on whether you should pick up something fast, think about how a home-cooked meal would be a better option for your family.

Fast food chains, in addition to other restaurant chains, become popular by offering the same or similar dishes at all their restaurants. That way no matter where you are or what location you go to eat, they will have your favorite dish. By doing this, they can keep customers coming back and you get what you want to eat.
